Supporting Chemainus Through Business
The Chemainus Business Improvement Association (BIA) is an organization to promote
the area's full range of unique shops and services. The BIA aims to foster a sense of community
through cultural events for local residents and visitors alike.
The BIA also endeavours to facilitate visible improvements to increase the safety and beauty of the town,
enhancing the community for both residents and visitors. Email the Board at info@muraltown.com

The name "Chemainus" comes from the native shaman and prophet
"Tsa-meeun-is" (Broken Chest).
Legend says that the man survived a massive wound in his chest to become a powerful chief.
His people took his name to identify their community.

Chemainus, is now (per capita) Canada's largest permanent outdoor art gallery.
Much of downtown is covered with over 40 murals, most dealing with area history and now "Emily Carr"
(read our story on Emily).
